Basil is among the most important and most loved of all culinary herbs because of its great taste and versatility in the kitchen. It is commonly used in salads, sauces, casseroles, and seasonings for meat, fish, poultry, and vegetables. The rule of thumb in my kitchen is that basil can be added to anything that contains garlic or tomatoes. It is also the main ingredient in most Pesto recipes.
